How to make a screenshot look professional

  1. Take a screenshot and paste it with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac), drop the file onto the page, or choose it.
  2. Pick a gradient, a solid colour, your own background image, or no background for a transparent PNG.
  3. Set padding, corner radius and shadow, and add a light or dark browser frame if the screenshot shows a website.
  4. Choose a platform and a format (Instagram square is selected to start), or switch to “Fit screenshot” for a canvas that wraps the image. Then download a PNG or JPEG.

Frequently asked questions

Will my screenshot stay sharp?

With “Fit screenshot”, the export scale is set to match how the screenshot was captured, so it is copied pixel for pixel. The panel shows “Original pixels, 1:1” when that’s the case.

With a fixed post size, a large screenshot is scaled down to fit (never up), and the panel shows the percentage used.

What does “Captured on a screen at 2×” mean?

Retina and other high-density screens produce screenshots with two or three pixels for every point on screen. Telling the tool keeps padding, corners and shadow in proportion. It guesses 2× for screenshots wider than 2,200 pixels; change it if the result looks off.

Which sizes do the presets use?

Choose Post size, then a platform and a format. The table below lists every size, from 1080 × 1080 for an Instagram square to 1080 × 1920 for YouTube Shorts and 1280 × 720 for YouTube thumbnails. They are common recommended sizes, not limits; use Custom for anything else, up to 8000 px per side. The screenshot is always scaled evenly to fit, never stretched.

For a post that continues across several swipeable slides, use the Instagram carousel splitter on the finished image.

Pasting doesn’t work. What can I do?

Make sure the screenshot was copied to the clipboard (on a Mac, hold Control while taking it, or use the copy button in the screenshot preview). Some browsers block the “Paste from clipboard” button; the keyboard shortcut and drag and drop always work.

Backgrounds, browser frames and export options

  • Add a background to a screenshot

Choose a gradient preset or your own two colours and angle, a solid colour, your own background image, or none for a transparent PNG.

  • Browser window mockup

Wrap the screenshot in a light or dark browser frame with the three window buttons and an optional title, such as your site’s address.

  • Padding, corners and shadow

Space around the screenshot, rounded corners and a soft drop shadow, each adjustable with a slider.

  • Sized for each platform

Instagram, LinkedIn, X and YouTube formats, or a custom size up to 8000 px. The screenshot is scaled evenly to fit, never stretched.

  • Sharp exports

PNG or JPEG at 1×, 2× or 3×. With “Fit screenshot” the original pixels are copied 1:1, so text stays crisp.

  • Private by design

The screenshot is processed in your browser and never uploaded, so internal dashboards and drafts stay on your device.

Give step-by-step screenshots a consistent frame and padding for guides, help centres and slides.

  • Portfolio shots

Present web and app work in a browser window mockup for case studies and pitch decks.

  • Thumbnails

    Turn a screenshot into a 1280 × 720 YouTube thumbnail or a 1080 × 1920 Shorts cover.

  • Multi-slide posts
